The McIntosh Chiefs boys and girls basketball team hosted
Griffin on Friday night in the most important match of the
season before the upcoming regional tournament. The girls played
first and lost to Griffin by a score of 61-47. Kelli Hogan scored
14 points for the Chiefs and Jessi Prahl scored 12 points but
Griffin had the lead for nearly the entire game. The Bears
offense was fueled by Erica Starks 20 points and Jawana West's
19 points. The Lady Chiefs fell to 15th in the AJC's - Atlanta
Tipoff Club Rankings, while Griffin climbed to tenth.
The boys from McIntosh got their first win against (at the
time) fourth ranked Griffin ever. The first quarter was all Hanchett
and Patrick as the Chiefs led 13-10. McIntosh opened up the
second quarter with a big run but let Griffin sneak back in towards the
end of the first half. The second half was one of determination for
the Chiefs, beginning with an 11-0 run that built a sizable lead.
Both Hanchett and Patrick had to sit due to foul trouble. They
returned and the lead had not slipped away. The Chiefs won by a score of
69-53 and climbed to fifth in the AJC rankings, while Griffin slipped
to eighth. Michael Patrick finished with 20 points while DJ
Dunlap and Jim Hanchett both contributed 12 points. McIntosh
will travel to East Coweta on Friday for their final game of the
regular season.
