Men can learn how to be Great Dads

Most men have received far more training in algebra than they have in effective fathering.

That is why organizers of the upcoming Great Dads seminar say all men should invest these four hours in order to give their children the best gift possible that of being a great dad.

The seminar will be held Feb. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Braelinn Baptist Church, 777 Robinson Rd., Peachtree City. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

Great Dads, a national ministry dedicated to training men in the important job of fathering, has a vision to "see fathers across America turn their hearts to their children." This, the group believes, will enrich children's lives, bring joy to fathers, and ultimately renew American society.

Men attending the seminar will experience God's call to them as fathers, learn the "six basics" and how to apply them, develop a personal action plan, and discover the joy of fathering.

Seminar leader Dr. Robert Hamrin is the founder and president of Great Dads, based in Virginia. He has also written a number of books, including "Straight from a Dad's Heart: 12 Keys to Joy-Filled Fathering." Hamrin has been a guest on more than 40 radio and television talk shows on the topic of fathering.

Hamrin and his wife Carol have three children, Eric, Krista and Kira, and are members of Burke Community Church in Virginia.

During the seminar, men will learn the six basics of fathering: providing unconditional love and affection, spending T-I-M-E, communicating constantly and creatively, partnering with mom, instilling moral and spiritual values, and establishing a fathering legacy.

Participants will leave the seminar with an action plan guide, the Great Dads newsletter for one year, and a commitment pledge as an ongoing reminder.

The seminar costs $40, and men can bring guests for $35 each. Stop by Braelinn for a registration form or call 770-487-6691.
