Fayette County Sheriff's deputies are again urging local residents to be alert for burglars who first try an innocent approach.

A Sandy Creek Road woman did not answer her door for a man she didn't recognize, but activated a police-summoning silent alarm and a sound-alarm that scared the two suspects away from her home, according to Lt. Mahlon Donald of the FCSD. Before they left, however, the two did take a chain saw, pressure washer and several power tools from the garage area of the house where the woman was home alone, Donald added.

The suspect who rang the doorbell was described as a white male, 25 to 35 years old, average height and build with dark wavy hair, reports show. The other suspect also is a white male of average height and build who was wearing a knit cap, and other details could not be obtained, Donald said.

Before police could arrive, the two left the scene in an older, larger beige-colored passenger car with possible damage to the front right quarter-panel, Donald said.

Thefts and burglaries are also being investigated by the sheriff's department at locations on Lowery Road, Inman Road and Avon Drive, reports show.

Donald also said that Carl Ambrose Spralling, 20, of College Park, was arrested last week at Ga. Highway 279 and Dix Lee On Drive and charged with driving under the influence, fleeing law officers and driving left of center. He also has been charged with theft by receiving stolen property, Donald said, because the new car he was driving apparently was taken from a dealership in Union City. Fulton County charges are pending, Donald added.

FAYETTEVILLE REPORT

Fayetteville Police report arresting Saul Madrid, 24, of Chamblee, and charging him with hit-and-run and driving with no license after an incident at Ga. Highway 85 and West Grady Avenue. Madrid was driving a 1985 Ford van when he apparently struck another moving vehicle and did not stop, said Capt. Steve Ledbetter. The driver of the other car notified police by cell phone and an arrest was made, he added.

Fayetteville reports also show seven arrests last weekend for drug possession following traffic stops, Ledbetter said. Persons arrested and charges included Clemente Montez Scott, 23, Decatur, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and no rear brake lights; Corey Donta Sales, 26, Decatur, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana; Perry Lee Scott, 20, Decatur, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and interference with police; Patricia Michelle Hyatt, 22, Dothan, Ala., possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute of a Schedule 1 narcotic; Richard Watson Gonsalves, 25, Dothan, Ala., and Brett Wesley Hickman, 23, Enterprise, Ala., possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and intent to distribute a Schedule 1 narcotic; Eric Keith Olsen, 33, 135 Downing Court, Fayetteville, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
