State Rep. Lynn Smith, R-Newnan, has been named to the House Appropriations Committee. Smith was recently named to the committee by House Speaker Tom Murphy, D-Bremen.

The committee oversees state spending policy and makes recommendations to the Governor's proposed budget plans.

"The budget process is one of the most important functions of state government," Smith said. "I look forward to the challenges which serving on the Appropriations Committee will bring."

Smith also looks forward to working with education issues in the budget process.

"Education comprises over half of the state's overall budget and is critical to our state's and country's future," she added.

Smith also serves on the Natural Resources and Environment and the State Planning and Community Affairs committee.
