The honeymoon for Tyrone Mayor Sheryl Lee may have come to an end. Less than a month into office, Lee was confronted by Tyrone resident Janet Smola at last week's town council meeting over the council's decision to hold a meeting without notifying everyone. Smola was referring to a meeting the council held Jan. 13 when the council appointed John Mrosek as town attorney and Sharon Pierce as town solicitor. "Why couldn't these things be more prudently handled than calling a special meeting?" Smola asked. The mayor said she didn't want to beat a dead horse concerning the town's attorney issue and wanted the council to come out of the gate with all the appointments made. New councilman Paul Letourneau said the council needed to get on with its business. "We had no town attorney or solicitor," he said. In other news, town manager Barry Amos recommended the town's citizens use Peachtree Natural Gas as the company of choice for gas service. While residents are free to choose any company, Amos said he believes Peachtree Natural Gas offers the most competitive pricing and service for the town's residents. Peachtree Natural Gas has joined forces with Coweta-Fayette EMC, so residents will have a place in the county to pay their bills and ask questions, Amos said. As far as a pricing structure goes, Amos said residents can choose a fixed rate of 37.5 cents per therm for 12 months, or select a variable rate with a 10 percent discount on the interstate pipeline charge.
