Residents looking to escape the winter blues can get a little taste of summer color next weekend.

Coweta Festivals, Inc. is staging its second annual art auction Feb. 6 at the Elks Club on Jackson Street in Newnan. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction and dinner. Bidding begins at 8 p.m. The auction features several exhibitors from the organization's Powers'Crossroads Art Festival.

Over 100 works in various mediums are set to be auctioned and all proceeds will go toward beefing up the awards program for Powers' Crossroads.

"This auction benefits the awards program, which is necessary to attracting high quality work, which in turn attracts people to our festival, allowing us to ultimately do more in the community through our organizations,' said festival director Roxanne Wallis.

Tickets for the auction are available at the festival's office at 10 1/2 Greenville Street in Newnan, Bank of Coweta, First Citizens Bank, the Alamo and Scott's Book Store. Tickets are $25 and include dinner and two drink tickets.

Each year, the art festival at Powers' Crossroads attracts hundreds of entries from artists throughout the Southeast.

Coweta Festivals, Inc. operates two major festivals that frame Coweta County's summer season.

Pigs and Wheels, which features a car show, barbecue cook-off and the Great Coweta Cook-Off takes place the first weekend in June.

Powers' Crossroads, which features artisans from around the South, is held Labor Day weekend.

The show is annually cited as one of the top crafts shows in the South.
