James Adam Moats of Fayetteville has been named to the dean's list at Young Harris College in recognition of academic excellence for the fall semester of 1998. Full-time students achieving a 3.5 grade point average or better are eligible for the dean's list.

Moats, a 1997 graduate of Fayette County High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Moats of Fayetteville.

Cristy Leigh Burdette, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James R. Burdette of Tyrone, is serving this semester at the Georgia State Capitol as an intern for the House of Representatives. Burdette is a junior at Valdosta State University, pursuing a degree in political science.

Travis Hannon, son of Tom and Linda Hannon of Peachtree City, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Georgia in Athens. Hannon, a 1996 graduate of McIntosh High School, finished the semester with a 3.75 grade point average. He is majoring in accounting.

Christina Bianco, a 5th grade student at Kedron Elementary School in Peachtree City, was awarded first place in Kedron's Fourth Annual Spelling Bee (4th-5th grades) on Jan. 25. Jessica Everage, 4th grade, took second place and Heather Prillaman, 4th grade, won third place. Anne Richardson, elementary language arts coordinator for Fayette County schools, served as Master of Ceremonies.

Christina will compete in the county spelling bee Feb. 10 at Burch Elementary School (4th-8th grades). The winner advances to the district competition in Douglasville, and then on to the state competition in Atlanta. The national competition will be in Washington, D.C.

Several Fayette County students have been named to the fall semester dean's list and dean's merit list at Gordon College.

Named to the dean's list were: (from Fayetteville) Sarah Adams, Allison Cole, Mark Fields, Megan Hottinger, Melanie Lino, Melissa Liverman, Melissa Logan, Jennifer Miller, Anna Palmer, Alison Rackowski, Julie Redding, Carrie Smith, Debra Smith, Donna Thomas and Charles White;

(from Peachtree City) Jaycie Ashby, Patrick Baumer, Ryan Baumer, Robyn Goodart, Martin Mahoney, Michael McCullough and Kimberly Robertson;

(from Brooks) Michael Mitchell and James Wilson;

(from Tyrone) Denise Hofer and David Komaee.

To be named to the dean's list, a student must maintain a 3.5 or higher grade point average and be enrolled for 12 or more semester hours.

Named to the dean's merit list were: (from Fayetteville) Cari Bohanon and Zubair Siddiqui; (from Peachtree City) Heidi Dawson; and (from Brooks)

State Labor Commissioner Marti Fullerton presented faithful service awards to several Fayetteville residents recently: Sherry Sparks, 30 years faithful service to the state and labor department (employment services division); Barbara Barton, 25 years faithful service to the state and labor department (claims administration); Kathleen Conley, 15 years faithful service to the state and labor department (labor market information); and David Williams, 15 years faithful service to the state and labor department (information services).
