The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City is introducing a new automated weather radio system this month, according to Carlos Garza, meteorologist-in-charge. The system will be able to disseminate forecasts and warnings faster than the older radio transmitters, he added, "especially when three or four transmitters have to be programmed with the weather statements." The new "NOAA Weather Radio System" is the first step in implementing a Console Replacement System (CRS) within the next two weeks, Garza said. Mild winter weather does not mean the center's meteorologists are not busy, Garza added. Recently the center hosted 120 students from Kedron Elementary for two days of tours and on-the-spot science training, he said.
