Tyrone could soon have an empty-nesters' community, if the town's planning commission and town council approve the concept. Town manager Barry Amos said developer Bob Adams will present a plan to the planning commission Thursday night asking for a 172-acre tract to be rezoned to office-industrial and DR-15. The site is on Handley Road between Senoia Road and Tyrone Road and would feature 257 cluster-type homes on one-half acre lots. Thirteen acres on the site would be used for an undetermined office and industrial development, while Adams has pledged to donate 8.9 acres to the town of Tyrone. The other major issue to come before the planning commission is a presentation by German-based MDT concerning building a road on a portion of their property between Crestwood Road and Dogwood Trail. Company officials are considering building a small manufacturing facility on the site and want to reroute a road that is currently on the site. During the first council meeting in January, company officials pledged to rezone part of the property to residential to try and create a buffer between the industrial area and the nearby residents. Council members asked MDT to present their concept to the planning commission, so the council would have a recommendation from the town's planning officials. Thursday's meeting is at 7 p.m. at Tyrone Town Hall. Fayettteville also is considering another Bob Adams project.
