The handicapped-accessible dock, which is being built at the Line Creek Nature Area in Peachtree City by the Peachtree City Rotary Club, is nearing completion.

This fishing dock is part of a picnic park on a pond adjacent to a significant natural shoal area on Line Creek. The park is in an 80acre protected natural expanse, near Planterra Ridge and the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

The Rotary Club is working under the auspices of the Southern Conservation Trust, a non-profit organization with the mission to maintain, protect, and enhance natural areas for public use in Peachtree City and Fayette County. In 1998, the Georgia Wildlife Federation named the Trust, which is in charge of developing the whole Nature Area, as the top conservation organization in the state.

The Peachtree City Rotary Club has been working on the dock project since last year. The club earned the award for best "Preserve Planet Earth" project at the 1998 District 6900 Rotary Convention at Jekyll Island because of the proposed work on the dock.

The dock will be named in memory of Arnold Cheek who died last fall. Cheek, who owned Cheek's Electronics, was a charter member of the Peachtree City Rotary Club and a well-known and well-loved citizen of the Peachtree City community.

Peachtree City Rotarians will hold a dedication service this spring when the dock is completed. Also plans are in place for a kickoff Fishing Rodeo for area youngsters, especially those with disabilities, to try out their fishing skills from the new dock.

The dock will serve as a focal point to draw visitors to the Nature Area and, by virtue of its handicapped-accessibility, will provide for enjoyment by all.
