site of 'Mr. Wizard's Science Challenges' On Jan. 22, the mysteries of science will be explored at Oak Grove Elementary when ECA Educational Services, in conjunction with the Mr. Wizard Studios, presents "Mr. Wizard's Science Challenges." New guidelines set by the American Academy for the Advancement of Science ask teachers to use hands-on projects in an effort to improve the science programs in our nation's schools. In keeping with these guidelines, Mr. Wizard Science Assembly Programs demonstrate the science of everyday living using interactive teaching methods. Don Herbert, better known as "Mr. Wizard" from NBC TV's "Watch Mr. Wizard" and Nickelodeon's "Mr. Wizard's World," has produced a program to bring this hands-on style of science to Peachtree City at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Robert Savage, Herbert's official assistant, will present this fast-paced show they guarantee will educate and entertain. To engage children in active learning, it is first necessary to arouse their curiosity. One of Mr. Wizard's proven techniques to arouse curiosity in children is to present them with a challenge. With the help of students selected from the audience, Savage will work through a series of investigations and eventually discover the answers to each of the show's challenges. This show combines Mr. Wizard's informal style with stimulating science challenges designed to inspire creative thinking and enthusiasm for learning in young minds. |
