It was billed as a chili "cook-off," but somehow everybody had such a good time, they never got around to a judging. The Georgia Chapter of the Short Wing Piper Club showed up recently at Falcon Field in Peachtree City for an annual event that brought chili aficionados from all over. The Peachtree City Airport Authority members did some cooking, while some members of the airplane club brought their own chili versions. David Harris, a Coweta County resident and president of the Georgia chapter, said it began as a way of kicking off Falcon Field's "Second Saturday" activities. It's a fund-raiser for the Piper organization, he said, as well as a way to introduce Falcon Field and flying to the public. About 50 people across Georgia are members, Harris said, but only two planes were able to come in for the most recent chili dinner because of the weather. Over the last three years, as many as 140 people and 10-15 planes have been in for the event, he added. "The first time we had it, we ran out of chili and had to supplement from Waffle House," he said, but didn't say whether there was a judging that year either. |
