Fayette leaders will hammer out goals and a work program for 1999 during an annual retreat meeting Feb. 12 and 13 starting at 8 a.m.

The County Commission last week agreed to have the meetings at the Holiday Inn Suites on Ga. Highway 74, Peachtree City. All commission meetings are open to the public.

In earlier discussions, commissioners had discussed scheduling only one day for the retreat, but chairman Harold Bost insisted on planning for meeting all day, both days.

"I think it's going to be a crunch to get it in two days," Bost told The Citizen in a recent interview.

"I've been developing a list [of issues to discuss during the retreat] for six months, and others have their lists too," he said, adding that he expects the retreat to last for both days with issues left over.

"We'll either wait until next year or have a follow-up retreat" to discuss remaining issues, he added. "I anticipate a lot more sharing of ideas" than in previous retreats, Bost said.

In addition to setting goals for the year and discussing pressing issues like the county's new jail and judicial complex projects, commissioners will go over priorities for next year's budget.

In addition to setting the date and time for the retreat meeting, commissioners last week continued the process of getting organized for 1999, assigning committee duties for the year.

Linda Wells will serve as the commission's representative on the county Board of Health, and Glen Gosa on the Water Committee.

Bost will serve on the internal insurance committee for the commission, with Herb Frady, Greg Dunn and county administrator Billy Beckett on the jail study committee, Bost and Dunn on long-range planning, Frady as the county's representative to the Association of Fayette County Governments, and Gosa and county senior planner Pete Frisina on the Two Rivers Council.

Commissioners agree to make planning director Chris Venice a voting member of the Water Committee as well.
