A giant new Lowe's home improvement super store, on the drawing board for more than two years, may be getting closer to reality. JDN Corp. will submit development plans for a 115,000--sq. ft. store, plus 20,000 square feet of outdoor garden center, at the Fayetteville Planning Commission's monthly business meeting next week. The group meets Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. The store, planned for about 33 acres between Ga. highways 314 and 85 just north of Banks Crossing Shopping Center, will be part of a shopping center that includes one other anchor and two out-parcels, but JDN spokesman Van Westmoreland said plans aren't in place for the other buildings yet. According to plans discussed during the Planning Commission's workshop last week, Lowe's will sit near Hwy. 85, facing the rear of K-Mart at Bank's Crossing. Entrances are planned for both state highways, with driveways to connect the center to Banks Crossing. Commission members questioned some details of the development plan during the work session, and if company officials are unable to answer all the questions by next week, action on the plan may be delayed yet again. It wouldn't be the first time. The company went back to the drawing board several times during 1998 after going through a lengthy process to get zoning for the project. Early plans were to put the store at Ga. Highway 54 and Gingercake Road, but city ordinances wouldn't permit it. The company dropped a lawsuit over the Gingercake Road plan in favor of its new site when zoning was approved early last year.
