On Monday night, Fayette County played host to Newnan. The Lady Tigers, fresh from their victory against McIntosh, pounded the Newnan Tigers by a score of 64-36. Two days before this game Newnan lost by 30 points to the East Coweta Lady Indians. Jessica Pritchett scored her 1,000 career point for Fayette County on Monday night as she netted 23 points and pulled in 12 rebounds.

In the boys game, Fayette County came out strong and built a six point lead by the half. Coach Keith Louthan was pleased with the lead that was established but felt it should have been bigger, considering the amount of pressure his team had put on Newnan. Newnan fought back hard in the third, taking a two point lead into the fourth quarter. Fayette County could not regenerate the type of energy they had at the beginning of the game and eventually lost, 65-55.

Fayette County travels to Griffin on Friday night for one of their biggest sub region games of the year. The Griffin Lady Bears are ranked tenth in AAAA play this year and the boys are ranked eleventh. Fayette County must respond to the pressure of the Griffin defense, play strong under the basket and impose their own pressure on the Bears. The games begin at 7:00 p.m.

Sandy Creek hosted Riverdale on Monday night. The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots got behind Riverdale but never gave up. Riverdale had a slight size and experience advantage and they played a fairly physical game but Sandy Creek found ways to score on them. Ashley Lott finished with seven points while Jessica Demooney and Amanda Lambert finished with five points each.Riverdale eventually won by a score of 49-32

The boys came out strong against Riverdale and played them to a 18-18 tie at the end of the first quarter. As the second quarter began, a ball was knocked into the vacant Sandy Creek back court and taken in for a dunk by a Riverdale player. The dunk snapped the rim off of the basket and the game was postponed. The game will resume on Jan. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Sandy Creek. The game will start at a 20-20 tie with 7:19 remaining in the second quarter. Sandy Creek hosts Woodward on Friday night. Woodward's girls are ranked seventh in AAA, while their boys are ranked thirteenth.

On Tuesday night, Starr's Mill hosted North Clayton. The Lady Panthers were shell shocked early in the game and trailed by a score of 33-14 at the half. Coach Teresa Hobbs must have said something to inspire her players at the half because they played North Clayton dead even in the second half. Both teams scored 39 points a piece.

"We created opportunities for ourselves in the second half," said Coach Hobbs. "It may have been a different story if we hadn't dug ourselves such a big hole." Jamie Vining finished with 20 points, five assists and five steals, while sophomore Teri Cobb netted 12 points for the Lady Panthers. Starr's Mill travels to Riverdale on Friday night before traveling to Sandy Creek next Tuesday.
