East Coweta hosted their crosstown rivals Newnan last Friday night and the results were a little mixed. The Lady Indians played first and opened up with their most aggressive first half of the year. "It was the largest crowd that this team has played in front of this year," said Coach Paula Jones. "They were really up for the game." East Coweta pressed well against Newnan and got a lot of turnovers, resulting in a lot of points. Janine Martin scored 14, while Trishica Evans chipped in 11 and Kristy Gaines netted 10. The Lady Indians won by a score of 75-45.

The boys of East Coweta faced Newnan's boys next and the game was completely different. The first three quarters were a defensive struggle for both teams. The Indians were having problems blocking out and gave up too many offensive rebounds to Newnan. Both teams lit it up in the fourth quarter though, scoring 20 points a piece and bringing the game down to the wire. East Coweta got called for a foul late in the game and Newnan was able to sink their shots and control the game the rest of the way, winning by a score of 57-53. J.D. Stephens scored 20 points for East Coweta while Jackie Britt and Darian Burke combined for 17 Indian points. "We need to execute better on both offense and defense," said Coach John Thrower.

The next night the Indians traveled to Troup County. The Lady Indians had cooled off considerably from the night before. They were not shooting well and made too many turnovers, resulting in a 31-31 tie going into the fourth quarter. Trishica Evans and Suzy Shellnutt came up big for East Coweta though. Evans scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and Shellnutt hit two big three pointers to give the Lady Indians the lead and a 49-40 win over Troup. East Coweta improved their record to 13-2 and a ranking of ninth in the state in the AAAA division.

The East Coweta boys moved the ball well in their game against Troup County on Saturday. They attacked the defense with patience and broke the pressure, but still trailed Troup by one point in the fourth quarter. East Coweta responded with a 32 point deluge in the fourth quarter. Marcus Robinson and J.D. Stephens combined for 21 of those points. The Indians coasted to a 73-64 victory and will face Upson-Lee, Friday.
