Research on treetop antennas in Peachtree City has shown that the structures "do not appear to be the safety hazard" that initiated the city's studies of "tree structures," City Manager Jim Basinger told the City Council. Regulation of tree structures has been discussed at several council and planning commission meetings, related to antennas and other things "nailed in trees" like treehouses. Several council members expressed reluctance to attempt control of children's treehouses, but the city building inspector had reported that some of the structures were unsafe for climbers and for people underneath them. Basinger said that BellSouth Entertainment had "cooperated fully and provided all the information that we needed," and has agreed to continuous inspections of the antenna sites. The inspections would determine whether the installations remained sturdy and whether the tree itself had been damaged by lightning or other conditions, he added. No mention was made of treehouses in Basinger's report.
