With nearly 100 people packed into Tyrone Town Hall, new mayor Sheryl Lee called for a time of healing in the western Fayette town.

At last Thursday's town council meeting, Lee, along with new councilman Paul Letourneau, completed the journey that started on the campaign trail last summer. Both newly elected officials thanked their supporters and pledged to work for the benefit of the whole town.

In a brief state of the town address at the end of the meeting, Lee said she wanted the residents to aid the government by volunteering for committees. She also added that she plans to make the government more accessible to the residents by creating a Web page for the town and restarting the quarterly newsletter that used to be sent to the town's residents.

Lee called for the dormant Tyrone Business Association to start meeting again and said the association could provide a valuable link between the business leaders and the government.

In her final initiative for a more open community, Lee said she wanted an open town hall meeting every quarter to allow the residents to bring suggestions to the council about making the town a better place to live.
