After waiting for months, students and anxious parents should see work progressing on the North-gate High School Athletic fields this weekend. In a construction update to the Coweta County Board of Education this week, operations director Doug Bennett said the aiming of the stadium lights is set for this week. The school system is still waiting for the county to relocate a water main at the softball and soccer fields, but is preparing drawings of the grandstand. Bennett said the soccer field and parking lot should be completed this spring. In other construction news, Bennett said: Work is progressing on schedule at the county's newest elementary school, Arbor Springs. The weather has delayed some of the paving work, but steel and block work is proceeding on Building C. He expects the slab to be poured for Building A this week, along with starting on the roofing on Building C. He also expects steel work to begin this week on Building B. Bennett said the project should be completed by August. The foundation block is complete at the new Smokey Road Middle School, but the project is still a little bit behind schedule. The structural steel on Building A is 80 percent complete, and the slab should be poured for Building B next week. The paving is 90 percent completed, and most of the underground plumbing and wiring should be completed by next week. Demolition is complete in the Northside Elementary School restroom renovation project. The flooring for the project should be completed next week, with partitions scheduled to be delivered Jan. 25. Bennett expects the project to be finished by Feb. 1.
