McIntosh traveled to Fayette County High School on
Friday night for what is typically their biggest game of the year. The
student bodies from both schools came out to give their
amazingly loud vocal support and intensify the atmosphere. In the first
game the Lady Tigers played host to the Lady Chiefs. The Fayette
County girls had a slight size advantage over McIntosh and won
many rebound battles and shots in the post. Demitria Lewis and
Jessica Pritchett both helped control the Lady Tigers down low.
Becca Grizzard and Abby Snauewaert hit key three pointers and kept
the pacing of the game in their favor. Kelli Hogan and
Megan Jankowski came up big for the Chiefs as well. Jankowski
scored nine straight points for the Chiefs late in the third quarter.
At the end of the third quarter, McIntosh led by one point.
The two teams went back and forth several times in the fourth
quarter, tying the game at the one minute mark and again with
only 25 seconds left. Sebrina McCord hit only one of her two foul
shots for the Chiefs and Jessica Pritchett scored only once
from her stint at the line but Christina Pritchett was fouled after
her sister's miss. There was 20 seconds left on the clock,
Pritchett hit both of her foul shots and Fayette County held on to win by
a score of 52-50. The crowd went wild and the best was yet to come.
The Fayette County Tigers came out ready to play a
tough McIntosh team. They led the Chiefs 9-2 with a little under
a minute and a half to play in thefirst quarter. McIntosh
rallied and brought the score to 9-7. Fayette County packed the
inside lanes and boxed out, capturing a good number of rebounds
and maintaining control of the game. Andrew Doggendorf shot well
for the Tigers, while Michael Patrick attempted to get his team back
in the game.
The Tigers led the Chiefs by a score of 43-41 with less than
3 minutes to go and then by a score of 45-42 with less than 2
minutes to go. The Tigers were using the clock to their advantage
and drawing fouls. They stepped up their pressure and stole the
ball several times, but their lead never grew.
Fayette County had a one point lead with a minute to go
when Michael Patrick hit a big three for the Chiefs. Fayette County tied
it after a quick layup leaving 11 seconds on the clock. The
Chiefs worked the ball around and got it to Patrick who stopped,
pumped and launched a three pointer. It went in and McIntosh won
the game, 52-51.
