The Kenwood Christian Church began in September 1983, in the homes of the Lockman's, the McEwen's and the Lyle's. At the end of the month, they had received a state charter for the church, moved into what amounted as a three-car garage, and then in an office building.

Land was obtained on Ga. Highway 279, in the Kenwood Community, and in March, 1986, the congregation entered its very own building.

The membership grew and grew and in 1993, 26 acres were purchased on Ga. Highway 85 South, near the White water Middle School. In June 1994, the 600-member congregation moved once again.

The pastor is the Rev. Paul K. Carrier who has been serving the church since March 1984. Prior to that, he served as the president of Atlanta Christian College for six years.

He was born in Hammond, Ind., and reared in South Chicago. His father was also a pastor, and served one church for 45 years.

The Rev. Carrier attended the Minnesota Bible College and the Lincoln, Ill., Christian Seminary. He has served churches in south Chicago, Kentucky and Texas, before coming to Georgia and Atlanta Christian College in 1978.

He is married to Donna, and they are parents of Jennifer; Jeffrey, who is a pastor; and Jonathan, who is active in his father's church.

Among the things the Rev. Carrier would like to see come to fruition before retiring one day, is a new worship center (they worship now in it's multi-purpose gym); he would like to see all of the goals set by the church as having been met; would like to see at least one satellite church begun by Kenwood Christian; see the many ways that Christ is working through the congregation; help parents and grandparents in ministering to youth; and last but not least, believes that all this should be purposedriven and not just program-driven.

Kenwood Christian enjoys a participation in Sunday Worship services of an 85 to 90 percent of its membership enrollment and 65 percent of these are involved in a church ministry in one way or another.

Worship services are Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m.; a Wednesday family meal is at 5:30 p.m. and Bible Study for adults is at 7 p.m.

The church is located at 1577 Hwy. 85 South and can be reached at 770-461-1487.
