At least three new restaurants, several hundred new single-family homes and around 20 locations available for businesses and industries are on tap for Peachtree City in 1999.

Additionally, two major retail centers will be under construction this year, on opposite sides of Ga. Highway 54 west of its intersection with Ga. Highway 74. Statistics compiled by Peachtree City's information officer Betsy Tyler and by Pat Heaberg, assistant vice president for commercial and industrial properties for Pathway Communities (formerly PCDC), show the city's growth rate remains strong while available land dwindles toward "buildout."

New subdivisions expected to start this year include Camden Hill (formerly Strathmore), Ebenezer Road, seven lots; Cardiff Park, Planterra Way, 28 lots; Cedarcroft, Line Creek Parkway and Ga. Highway 54, 218 lots; The Enclave on Hwy. 54 east, lots unknown, undergoing rezoning request and name change; Flat Creek Crossing, Loring Lane and Simms Road, 28 lots; The Peninsula, Peachtree Parkway north across from Stoneybrook, 54 lots.

A 399-unit apartment complex also has been approved for Line Creek Parkway and Hwy. 54, but is still in the "conceptual site plan" stage. Another 217 apartments on Hwy. 74 north near Kedron Drive also are anticipated, but it is not known whether construction will begin in 1999.

South Peachtree City Industrial Park extends Cooper Circle to open up 12 industrial sites, but no final plats have been approved. Pathway is working on the road construction to access another 244 acres zoned for general industrial uses. Another Pathway project involves Southpark International, a 35-acre, five-site area accessed with an extension of International Drive; construction is expected this year after final plat approvals.

Commercial properties include four sites at Whitlock Place on Hwy. 74 north; 16,535 square feet planned at City Walk Pavilion, City Circle and Circle Gate; a medical office building offering about 20,000 square feet on Commerce Drive in Westpark Walk; building No. 4 at Jefferson Corners on Eastbrook Bend and Stevens Entry; World Class Aviation, 20,000 square feet on Dividend Drive, and a GRID telecommunications tower at Meade Park on Hwy. 74 south.

Other projects include the new Leach Fire Station on Paschall Drive and Clover Green; a possible 15-unit assisted living home on Willow Road at Hwy. 74 south; relocation of the Braelinn McDonald's from Crosstown Court to Crosstown Road; relocation of the Braelinn Village Package Store to Crosstown Court.

Don Pablo's Mexican Kitchen is expected to be open in late March, while Chili's and On the Border are anticipated for late summer. "The Avenue" at City Circle will start construction on about 160,000 square feet of "upscale" retail stores developed by Cousins MarketCenters, while MarketPlace across the street will contain a large office supply store in a retail center of about 38,000 square feet.

Church expansions expected this year include Holly Grove AME on Robinson Road, adding an educational building.

The new subdivisions alone could represent 335 new single-family homes, while building continues in existing subdivisions in the Kedron Village area. Building official Tom Carty reported 293 new housing starts in 1998.
