Noted Bible teacher, Howard Hendricks tells about the most exciting lay teacher he had ever been exposed to, a woman 86 years old. He said the last time he saw her, before she passed away, she came into a stuffy party he was at and said,"Well, Hendricks, I haven't seen you for a long time. What are the five best books you've read in the past year?" Hendricks said this lady's philosophy was, "Let's not bore each other with each other; let's get into a discussion, and if we can't find anything to discuss, let's get into an argument." He said she was 83 years old on her last trip to the Holy Land. She went there with a group of NFL football players. He remembered seeing her out front yelling back at them "Come on men, get with it!" She died at 86 years old in her sleep. Her daughter said that before she died she had written out her goals for the next 10 years. What an example of active faith. As we begin a new year we should all take inventory. Ask yourself questions like, "Am I making my life count for God? Am I growing spiritually, intellectually, financially and socially? Do I have a zest for life? Am I planning on accomplishing anything for God in this next year He has given me?" Attempt great things for God and believe God for great things this year. J. Hudson Taylor said, "Too often we attempt to work for God to the limit of our incompetency, rather than to the limit of God's omnipotency." Everything is possible for him who believes (Mark 9:23).
