Draft copies of Peachtree City's master plan for recreation are available for review at the Recreation Department, 191 McIntosh Trail, next to the amphitheater. Recreation Commission Chairman Earl Spell says that the commission is "impressed with the amount of work done, and the comprehensiveness of this plan." After the final financial sections are finished, Spell added, the commission will formally approve the plan for presentation to City Council at the annual retreat. Other commission members are John Connolly, Jan Zink, Luther Holt and Dan Wright. The commission hired consultant Bob Betz to work with them and with Recreation Director Randy Gaddo on the plan for looking ahead to future recreation needs. Months of discussions, public hearings and data-gathering preceded the document, Spell said. All local youth sports organizations, athletic leagues and other "major users" had input into it, he added. A major emphasis in the plan is "not just what we need to build, but what we need in the way of maintenance, operation of the locations we have, safety and security measures," Spell noted. Some of the proposed future costs, he said, already have been allocated in the city's capital improvements plan. "It's not a Christmas wish list," Spell said. "Our first task was identifying needs, and I think we've accomplished that."
