The Rev. Don Smith says it was "an easy call" for the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City to host the recent fall meeting of the Greater Atlanta Presbytery. Normally such events take weeks of preparation and arrangements, but the Peachtree City congregation had only days to get ready for more than 400 visitors. The Presbytery meeting had been scheduled at Calvin Center in Henry County, a conference facility used by many denominations in the Atlanta area and throughout the southeast. Just before the meeting, a thunderstorm severely damaged the roof at Calvin Center, leaving the ministers and elders "quite literally, out in the rain," Smith said. The Peachtree City church gathered its resources and hosted the meeting, turning up dozens of volunteers on short notice. Ed Albright, executive presbyter of the Greater Atlanta Presbytery, said he "heard so many words of praise for the facilities and the spirit of the people." Smith says that spirit is always present at First Presbyterian. "Over the years I have seen them (church members) repeatedly respond with prayers, money, goods, and personal service when given opportunities to lend a helping hand. It took a lot of last-minute work by a lot of church members and staff, but it produced nothing but joy in their hearts. We felt honored to be in a position to meet the needs of the Presbytery."
