The results are in, and Coweta's educators are extremely happy about the county's writing scores. Students at Coweta's three high schools either met or exceeded the state's average score of 93 percent on the Georgia High School Graduation Writing Test. The star of the school system was Northgate High School where all 141 students passed the test for a 100 percent pass rate. The school system's public information office complimented Northgate's efforts and said it "indicates a strong commitment to performance-based teaching, goal-setting and effective work by both teachers and students. Newnan High School's students were second in the county with a 95 percent pass rate, while East Coweta's students had a 93 percent pass rate. Students take the test in October of their junior year. The test covers a specific designated topic and the students are evaluated on content, organization, style, conventions and sentence form.
