U.S. Air Force Airman Adam D. Veitch has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, Veitch studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs, and received special training in human relations.

Veitch, the son of Daniel Veitch of Newnan and Cathy Newman of Sharpsburg, is a 1998 graduate of Newnan High School.

U.S. Air Force Airman Harold L. Young has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During the six weeks of training, Young studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs, and received special training in human relations.

Young, a 1998 graduate of East Coweta High School, is the son of Tina and Harold Young of Senoia.

While most Americans are celebrating the holiday season at home or with family, Marine Chief Warrant Officer Llewellyn D. Clayton, stepson of Mabel G. Clayton of 91 Cobblestone Creek, Peachtree City, Ga. is scheduled to spend the holidays deployed to Iwakuni, Japan, with Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 121.

Clayton is one of more than 65,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who are serving our country separated from their families and loved ones this holiday period. Clayton is working abroad to preserve peace as part of our nation's forward defense forces. Clayton's is deployed to Iwakuni under the Unit Deployment Program. Under the program, units based in the United States come to Iwakuni for six months to train. From Iwakuni they can deploy to other countries in the Pacific.

Clayton's squadron flies the F/A -18C Hornet, a twin-engine supersonic strike fighter which features an all-weather intercept, identify, destroy and ground attack capability. The 1975 graduate of Uniondale High School of Uniondale, N.Y. joined the Marine Corps in February 1978.

While most Americans are celebrating the holiday season at home or with family, Navy Petty Officer first class Christopher A. Marks, son of Robert and Brenda Marks of 303 Saltlick Trace, Peachtree City, Ga., is scheduled to spend the holidays deployed to the eastern Pacific Ocean aboard the USS Fife, home ported in Everett, Wash.

Marks is one of 65,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who are serving our country separated from their families and loved ones this holiday period. Marks is working abroad to preserve peace as part of our nation's forward defense forces.

Destroyers, like Marks' ship, have traditionally been the workhorses of the U.S. Navy, defending battle groups against threats from land, air, above and below the sea. Equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Sea Sparrow missiles, USS Fife is capable of hitting enemy targets hundreds of miles away. In addition, Marks' ship carries two helicopters with sonar and torpedo capabilities, expanding the ship's reach.

The graduate of McIntosh High School joined the Navy in January 1996.

Marine Pfc. Markus T. Laumann, son of Steven and Jody Laumann of Peachtree City, has completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., and was meritoriously promoted to his present rank.

Laumann, a graduate of McIntosh High School, successfully completed 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physically and mentally. Training included physical conditioning, classroom and field assignments, and instruction on the Marine Corps' core values.

The training phase ended with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort which culminated in a ceremony in which the recruits were presented with the Marine Corps Emblem and addressed as "Marines" for the first time since boot camp began.

Army Reserve Pfc. Deanna K. Crawford has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. During the training, Crawford received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, may reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.

Crawford is the daughter of George and Jessika Crawford of Peachtree City.
