I have had a good life and as far as the world is concerned, no one has ever called me "rich." I am paying on I feel, a nice house on a quarter-acre lot and have, I believe, a beautiful wife and two beautiful children. I drive two second-hand cars and have two dogs named "Chico and the Bandit" At our house we have four simple rules if you want to live here. One is when Sunday rolls around, there is one option open, and that option is to go to church. Secondly, the kids are required to go to school and do the best they can (notice I didn't say get all A's), Thirdly, you don't talk back or sass your mother or father, and fourthly, show respect for one another. My wife, Dee, and I have concluded, at least for our family, that if one keeps these four simple rules, a family can function within these guidelines and all else in life seems to fall into place. In other words, we have set some simple "bottom lines" for our household. In the Old Testament of the Bible, there was a great military leader named Joshua. He wrote, in Joshua 24:15, "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." What are the "bottom lines" in your life? I was watching the impeachment hearings on television and I never thought I would hear the "thinking processes" that, if you believe the polls, are coming out of the minds and hearts of supposedly educated, supposedly, "thinking" Americans. I remember when I was growing up you would hear statements like "pretty is as pretty does." In other words, if you saw someone and said "my isn't she pretty," and someone knew this person and knew that the lifestyle didn't match the pretty looks, they would quote that statement. I keep hearing from the media that almost every person interviewed says they think the president is not telling the truth, and that most all the charges against him are true. On the other hand, they still want him to remain in office and I suppose, enjoy being lied to and enjoy a president that continues to break the law. Sorry America, you can't have it both ways if you still believe in a country governed by law. It was interesting to hear that many of those voting for impeachment were quoted as voting their "conscience" and not the will of the people. I heard William Bennett the former drug czar, state on television that this is not a country governed by "polls." If we were, then we would have prayer in public schools because the "polls" show that most Americans do want prayer in public schools. The "polls" show that most American are against late term abortions but we still have them because we are a country of laws. President Clinton, regardless of how you or I "feel" about him, has broken the law. How we as Americans deal with him sends very strong messages to our entire nation, our whole democratic system, and to our children for generations to come. I thought it totally ironic that we expect Saddem Hussein (the horrible dictator that he is), to abide to the letter and spirt it of the law, and yet millions of Americans want a totally different double standard when it comes to our president. When John Hancock signed the Declaration of Independence, it was said that he signed his name so boldly that when the King of England read it, he wouldn't have to use his "spectacles." Christian Americans don't be swayed by the beltway spin doctors and the media pollsters. What is your "bottom line?" As for me and my house we will serve the Lord! President Clinton must be impeached. The constitutional house will tumble down if its foundation, the rule of law, is corrupted.
