A courier apparently took $50,000 worth of nonworking auto radios from the Panasonic plant on Dec. 3, Peachtree City police report.

Chief James Murray said that Panasonic management reported the theft when the radios failed to reach their destination, an assembly plant in Ohio. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Russell D. Bignardi, 33, of Hampton, who Murray said was taken into custody Dec. 9 upon his release from a hospital.

"The strange thing is," Murray said, "that all those car radios did not work, and couldn't work until they had parts added in Ohio. And there's no way for anybody to get those particular parts."

Peachtree City police also charged Donald Jones Sr. of Riverdale with theft by taking in connection with a $300 theft from Greenway Amoco on Ga. Highway 54.

Murray said that a police review of the store's video surveillance tape revealed a person bending over and removing cash from the register when the clerk's back was turned. The tape also showed the side of the truck the suspect got into when leaving, Murray said. Within 24 hours, he added, Jones was identified and in jail.

Reports also show the following arrests and charges:

James Preston, 37, Peachtree City, open container and expired tag;

David L. Strickland, 43, Fayetteville, stop sign violation, failure to maintain lane, driving on suspended license, giving false name and no proof of insurance;

Edward A. Dow, 22, Peachtree City, DUI, open container, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, and speeding;

Patrick J. Scanlin, 20, Sharpsburg, DUI, violation of controlled substance act and speeding;

Michael D. Wilder, 25, College Park, fleeing and attempting to elude and speeding;

Randolf R. Olshlager, 35, Richmond, Va., DUI and following too close.

Police also are investigating damages to vehicles parked at El Ranchero in Braelinn Village and on Wynnmeade Parkway; a burglary at McElroy Metal Co.; theft from an unlocked auto on Ridgefield Drive and theft of a computer from the Peachtree City Library.
