Groundbreaking today for new Kiwanis Club fairgrounds site

The Fayette County Kiwanis Club will host groundbreaking ceremonies at their new 60-acre "Kiwanis Fair Complex" today at 4 p.m. The complex, located on Goza Road at Lisbon Road, will be the home for the annual Kiwanis Fair and for other events for the community throughout the year.

In 1981, the Kiwanis Club purchased 34 acres on Ga. Highway 54 East, but having the annual fair there didn't work out. The club held on to the site until this year, when they sold it and purchased the acreage off Goza Road.

Preparing the new site with electricity and water took longer than anticipated, so the 1998 fair took place for the final time at its old location near the Fayette County Recreation Department. The 1999 version of the Fayette County Kiwanis Fair will be at the Goza Rd./Lisbon Rd. site.
