The Starr's Mill High School Choruses will present their annual Holiday Concert Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Duke Auditorium at the school complex in Tyrone. The concert will feature the Treble Chorus, Concert Choir, Advanced Women's Chorus, and Chanticleer. The groups will be singing a wide variety of songs of the season from standard sacred choral literature to lighter contemporary arrangements of popular holiday tunes. The auditorium will provide a festive setting, adorned with greenery, wreaths and hundreds of twinkling white lights. The concert will begin in darkness, with Chanticleer singing Robert Shaw's and Alice Parker's a cappella arrangement of "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." Then the auditorium will come aglow as the 140 members of the choral program proceed with candles while singing the traditional Renaissance chant "Personent Hodie," complete with handbells, hand drum and period instruments. The Treble Chorus performance will include "Gesu Bambino," "Balulalow," Patapan," and a mixed meter arrangement of "Jingle Bells." The Concert Choir will present a variety of holiday music including "The First Noel" (featuring a violin duet), "Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow," "Scarborough Carol," and "Sleigh Ride." The Advanced Women's Chorus will feature "This Little Babe" from Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols," Mendelssohn's "Lift Thine Eyes," a novelty arrangement entitled "Jingle Bell Fantasy," and an a cappella arrangement of "Coventry Carol." Chanticleer will continue the evening's presentation with a cappella versions of the Spanish carol "Fum, Fum, Fum," the calypso carol "Mary's Little Boy Chile," and "I'll Be Home For Christmas." The free concert will conclude in candlelight with all choirs encircling the audience and singing the traditional favorites "Silent Night" and "Joy to the World."
