A jazzed-up
Nutcracker
in Fairburn

"The Jazz Nutcracker--Swing Style" will be presented this weekend by the Phoenix Project and the Doris Russell School of Performing Arts at the Southside Theatre in Fairburn. Performances are Friday, Dec.11 and Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and children under age 12.

Artistic director and choreographer John Mattson has translated the traditional Nutcracker story into a nostalgic 1940's setting. The production incorporates '40s-style swing with classical jazz dance styles. The score is comprised of newly released versions of "The Nutcracker Suite" from both Duke Ellington and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Performers in the production include the six-member Phoenix Project, 30 members from the Doris Russell school and special guest performers Eddie Ares and Nancy Senner. This production has received funding from the Fulton County Commission under the direction of the Fulton County Arts Council.
