Though they are not as deep as last year's team, the
Fayette County Tigers are ready for their upcoming regular season.
The team will be led by point guard William Moore. Moore is a
junior who controls the game both offensively and defensively for
the Tigers. Another player who sees some time at guard is
Andrew Doggendorf, a junior who has a good understanding of the
game and is the team's best pure shooter. Seniors Jeff Barnes and Jay
Dubac will give the Tigers some key leadership and points this
season. "Jeff is maybe our only pure
"big man" ," explains Coach
Louthan. "He is great on the boards and really helps the team with
enthusiasm and spirit. Jay is good both inside and outside and shoots
the ball well."
For the Tigers to succeed this year, Moore, Doggendorf
and Barnes will need to score consistently. Fayette County can
extend the floor defensively and has good defensive pressure. The Tigers
do have some depth off the bench in senior Jay Chapman, who led
the team in scoring in their game against Henry County.
Chapman is just one of a few Tiger players who is pleasantly surprising
Coach Louthan. " We shouldn't be overmatched very often this
year," Coach Louthan says. "This team is a lot of fun to work with and
a variety of people can score in a variety of ways."
The Tigers will face some stiff competition in their regional
rivals: Griffin, East Coweta, McIntosh, but no team is
invincible. The Tigers faced McIntosh on Saturday in the Mt. Zion
tournament and lost by two points, after missing three shots at the end
of the game. Fayette County traveled to LaGrange on Tuesday
to open the regular season. "If we can mix it up defensively
on LaGrange and maybe trap them, we can get them off balance
offensively," Coach Louthan explained.
