Funerals impress me. They are often a time of great bereavement and loss for a family or a friend or even a nation. They are certainly a time where it gets every one's undivided attention! As a pastor and a former chaplain, I along with all other pastors and chaplains, are called upon to bury the dead. This is a sad task that no pastor likes to do, but one that is part of the closure and healing process, and one we do as an honor to the life that was lost, the family, and as a witness to the saving grace of God through Christ. Depending upon the life of the individual, this can be a great time of witness to Almighty God and a great opportunity to share the "fruit" of the life of the loved one you are burying. I was once the chaplain of an Infantry Battalion which (before Clinton's downsizing of the Armed Forces) was roughly 800 soldiers. (I am afraid to ask what the numbers are now). In fact, I attended a Veterans' Day luncheon at Fort Gillem last month where General Fisher spoke and briefed us on how downsizing has affected our armed forces. Guess where America is as to the size of the armies of the world? We are number eight! If that doesn't scare you then you need to get out your history books and start reading them again. Sorry I got off the track but folks, if America doesn't wake up and get back on track spiritually and morally, and have the moral courage to impeach and vote out the Clintonites and their immoral cohorts, then I don't want to be around when this special nation falls into the hands of an angry God. How long is His patience going to last? It's interesting to me that the "politically correct" thing to say now is "let's don't impeach" him, but just "censure" him. That's like saying to a terminally ill cancer patient we have some new Band-Aids we want to place on your skin cancer, and we hope it will help." I strongly feel God wants men and women of God to stand up and be counted and tell the truth in love, but in "tough love." President Clinton has lost his moral mandate to lead this nation. When it comes to "burying time" and the pastor or chaplain has to bury you or me, (By the way, "none of us are going to get out of this thing alive"), what will be said of you and me? What will be said of President Clinton or of America's response to his term in office? Do you remember the days when fresh milk was delivered to your door daily in the pint and quart sizes? Be careful, people will figure out how old you used to be! There was an uncomplicated man named Delmar the Milkman who became a Christian. Delmar would deliver milk to people's homes and would slip a religious tract in between the milk bottles and walk away. I was the chaplain at South Post Chapel, Seoul Korea when I met a chaplain's wife who had picked up Delmar's tract and read it and became a hristian through the simple but powerful ministry of this one man. Every Tuesday morning in Fayetteville the interdenominational and interracial pastors from the south-side of Atlanta, meet at IHOP for breakfast. This is truly a wonderful fellowship. One of the men who attends is a pastor who is in the best shape of any of us. He is in his late 80's and takes no medication, and is as trim as a boxer. His name is T.W. Snider and he is a true man of God. Every time "T.W." as we call him, leaves his dollar tip on the table, he slides it into a religious tract for the waiters and waitresses to pick up and read as they clear the tables. One day "T.W" and "Delmar" will know in the great throne room in heaven the extent of their ministry here on earth. I wonder what the pastor said at the funeral of Delmar the milkman?
