PTC sewer authority eyes $2.8 million construction contract The Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority is prepared to approve its largest construction contract ever at the WASA meeting Monday, Dec. 7, 7 p.m. at City Hall. WASA manager Larry Turner says the estimated $2.8 million expenditure will pay for three new pump stations and a "splitter box" to improve flow control at the Line Creek and Rockaway wastewater treatment plants. The new pump stations will be located at Wynnmeade, on Dividend Drive and on Ga. Highway 74 south, he said. The authority members also will get a demonstration of the system's GIS, or "computer mapping," Turner added. Equipment purchases and a construction services agreement are also on the agenda. PTC Library enhances computer network All hardware is in place for the Peachtree City Library's enhanced computer network system, says Jill Kuhns, the library's new technology training manager. Computer consultant Brad Williams is expected to install software this week and get the system ready for users, she added. A report on the progress and anticipated "ready date" will be given at the Library Commission meeting Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Other items on the agenda for the meeting include office furniture expenditures, a report from the director of leisure services and committee reports. The library has recently installed new wall exhibit grids. The grids allow changeable displays, with adjustable shelves if appropriate, without wearing out walls, kiosk-type boxes or bulletin boards. 2 recent arsons in Fayette prompt reward Two recent arson fires in Fayette County have prompted local fire officials to redouble efforts to catch the firebugs through a reward program of Georgia Arson Control Inc., says Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. A fire several weeks ago destroyed most of a home in Tyrone, Nelms said, while a home on Ga. Highway 85 south sustained damage on Thanksgiving morning. Investigators have determined that the Tyrone fire was deliberately set, he said, but the residents of the home are not suspects. In the Hwy. 85 fire, the residents were not at home but firefighters were summoned by a home security system "The call came at 8:10 a.m.," Nelms said, "and the first engine arrived at 8:15 a.m. They found the fire confined to the basement area of the house, and were able to contain it there, though there was heavy smoke damage to the rest of the house." The fire is "being considered suspicious," Nelms said, and the department has been distributing fliers put out by Georgia Arson Control in an effort to improve chances of catching a suspect. Tyrone Yules up It's looking a lot like Christmas in Tyrone. On Dec. 15, a Christmas Crafts for Kids class will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Shamrock Park Recreation Building. Cost is $6 and advance registration is required. Residents who want to experience a holiday lights extravaganza will have the chance Dec. 22. A luxury motorcoach trip to Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens will leave the town at 6:45 p.m. Cost is $20 per person. If you really want to get in the true Christmas spirit, the town is offering angels to be placed on the town's angel tree. Each angel represents a child who needs help in achieving a Merry Christmas. from staff writers
