William "Bill" Lowe of Fayette County, a captain with the Emergency Medical Services in Clayton County, has been selected as one of four winners in the Yvorra Leadership Development Foundation's national scholarship competition.

Lowe, who has served with the Clayton County Fire Dept. since 1979, is currently working on his doctorate in business administration in human resource management at Nova Southeastern University.

Katherine Sciera, a 1998 graduate of Sandy Creek High School, is one of 14 freshman in Purdue University's School of Health Sciences to be named Freshman Scholars for the 1998-99 academic year. Students are chosen on the basis of high school academic performance, extracurricular activities, and recommendations from teachers and counselors.

Sciera, the daughter of John and Mary Sciera of Fayetteville, will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to work on a research-related project with a faculty member or health professional.

Nika G. Aull, a senior religion and philosophy major from Peachtree City, is one of 36 Berry College students named to the 1999 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and colleges." To be eligible, students must have a 3.0 or higher grade point average, demonstrate leadership in extracurricular activities; display active service in their community; and show a potential for continued success. Students are nominated by their academic advisors and approved by the faculty of their major department.

Aull is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome W. Aull of Peachtree City.

Wingo is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold R. Wingo of Fayetteville.
