John D. DeCotis of Fayetteville has been named "Educator of the Year" for his service to Fayette County schools and the community. The award was presented by D.C. Pratt of the Fayetteville Optimist Club. DeCotis is the assistant superintendent of schools for the Fayette County School System.

Mary M.T. Allen, head librarian for the Peachtree City Library, was recently installed as president of the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City by Glover Sewell, lieutenant governor of District 23 Kiwanis International.

The Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City meets Mondays at 7 a.m. They presently meet for breakfast at Aberdeen Woods Conference Center, but will relocate to the Wyndham Conference Center effective Dec. 21.

Fayette County Deputy Coroner David Mowell has completed a 24-hour coroner in-service training course conducted by the Georgia Police Academy Division of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. All Georgia coroners and deputy coroners are required by law to complete courses as approved by the Georgia Coroner's Training Council to maintain certification.

Course topics included legal updates, computer operations, blood pattern analysis, death scene analysis including cause and manner of death, and administrative duties.
