Main Street Fayetteville's annual Christmas parade is set for Dec. 5, offering plenty to hold the attention of parade-goers of all ages: angels, elves, beauty queens, bands, floats, fire trucks and more will be helping to get people in the holiday spirit. The Color Guard of Boy Scout Troop 76, led by Scoutmaster Neil Peeples, will start things off at 10 a.m. on Jeff Davis Drive with the presentation of the American and the State of Georgia flags. The grand procession, now in its sixth year, will include holiday clowns, Nick Pringle, Candy Cane, Rudy Reindeer and Missy Mistletoes. The parade will also include Fayette County High School's marching band and cheerleaders; "Beauty" and the "Beast"; "Scarlett O'Hara" and "Rhett Butler"; and the Georgia Division Reenactors Association appearing on horseback in period costumes. There will be decorated floats from Publix, Party City, Miss Patsy's School of Dance, and the City of Fayetteville; antique cars; the Fayette Biking for Life bicycle club; and walking groups from many local businesses and non-profit organizations. Santa Claus, the parade's Grand Marshal, will appear for the grand finale in an old-fashioned, horse-drawn carriage, complete with sleigh bells. Following the parade, Santa will be available for a short time for free carriage rides in Heritage Park. Spectators are invited to line the downtown streets for viewing along Ga. Highway 54 East, from Jeff Davis Drive along Ga. Highway 85 South, to the parade's final destination of Heritage Park. Awards for the best decorated floats and best decorated buggy will be awarded by Fayetteville Mayor Mike Wheat immediately following the parade.
