Residents who want to get a glimpse of the future of Tyrone should head to town hall this Thursday.

During this week's town council meeting, the town's leaders will discuss Tyrone's five- and 10-year master plan. The town has recently started feeling growth pains and plans for a large 800,000-square-foot office complex could drastically alter Tyrone's northern border on Ga. Highway 74.

Another challenge for the town in its long range plans is a sewerage system. Two weeks ago, Tyrone officials learned that the Fayette County Board of Education decided to not sell the Sandy Creek wastewater treatment facility to the town. Town manager Barry Amos said the school system did not say exactly why they were reconsidering the offer to sell.

The developer of the office park, Richard Bowers, had offered to pay for an appraisal of the wastewater facility, but school board officials rescinded the offer before the appraisal was completed. School board member Darryl Chaney offered Tyrone officials a list of appraisers acceptable to the board, but Amos does not know if Bowers would pay for that appraisal.

Other items on Thursday's agenda include:

· A discussion of the town's sexual harassment policy.

· A consideration of waving building permits and/or fee requirements for small accessory buildings and decks. The item was first placed on the agenda last month at the request of Mayor Richard Santiago. When Santiago was out of town for last month's second council meeting, the item was moved to Thursday's agenda.

Thursday's meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at Tyrone Town Hall.
