Military BriefMidshipman Joshua K. Pell, son of John and Rebecca Pell of Fayette County, participated in Acceptance Day ceremonies at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., Sept. 19, 1998. The annual event marks the official "acceptance" of a freshman, or plebe, into the ranks of the Academy's Regiment of Midshipmen. A 1998 graduate of Sandy Creek High School who was nominated to attend the Academy by Rep. Mac Collins, Midshipman Pell was administered the Academy oath by Rear Admiral Joseph D. Stewart, the institution's superintendent. Pell is one of 10 selected this year as Honor Plebe, recognizing those who exemplify the mission of the Academy and for their performance between Indoctrination and Acceptance. He earned a Silver Star for having a GPA between 3.25 and 3.49 and has rowed on a 4-man novice boat in intercollegiate regattas. He is a 1998 graduate of Sandy Creek High School. |
