for AHA Cardiac Arrest The Fayette County Division of the American Heart Association will be putting county residents under lock and key Dec. 2, when the AHA, along with the Volunteer Cardiac Arrest Parole Board, will be hosting the Holiday Cardiac Arrest Event. It will be at the First Citizens Bank in Fayetteville from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. "Cardiac Arrest is an exciting event that combines fun and fund-raising," said event co-chairmen Carol Johnson and Debra Wild of First Citizens Bank. "A group of very important citizens will be charged at the Cardiac Arrest for 'crimes of the heart.' In order to be released, the 'arrestees' must post bail." The "bail" (donations to the American Heart Association) will be used in the fight to reduce disability and death due to cardiovascular disease and stroke, America's number one killer. "The main portion of donations made to the American Heart Association is used to fund research projects," said Johnson. "In fact, this year the Southeast Affiliate of the AHA has pledged to invest more than $9 million in valuable biomedical research to universities, including grants to various schools of medicine and teaching hospitals." Besides Johnson and Wild, the Fayette County Parole Board includes Tyler Duffy, Michael Faulkner, Bobby Lewis and Margaret Vail. The committee's goal is to raise $10,000 to support the AHA research, education and community service programs to fight cardiovascular disease in Fayette County and throughout the country.
