The Fayette County Board of Education offered no hope to parents of Brooks middle schoolers that the students would attend Rising Star Middle School next year, though it is closest to Brooks. The board's decision to move Brooks students to Whitewater Middle met with opposition from parents and others in Brooks who felt left out of the process, but the board says Rising Star is already overcrowded.

Greg Dunn and Linda Wells, just elected to the Fayette County Commission, say they are making good on campaign promises by working now on ordinances dealing with ethics and impact fees. Residents with information for the new commissioners on those or other issues may contact Wells at her campaign e-mail address, votelinda@aol.com.

The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission approved only one of the development plans on its agenda last Tuesday for Carpets to Go at Ga. Highway 314 and Biltmore Drive in the Clairmont Commercial area. Three plans were tabled at the request of developers, while two more went "back to the drawing board" for changes. The commission had questions and requests about parking and driveways for a major retail center bounded by Hwy. 314, Banks Road and Ga. Highway 85, and needed more specific information about color schemes for the building and service station canopy for a new Amoco Split-Second store at Hwy. 85 and Ramah Road. A special called meeting is planned for Monday, Nov. 23.
