Diabetes Walk
a winner for all

Walkers from Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Henry and south Fulton counties helped make the 3rd annual Walk for Diabetes the largest grossing American Diabetes Association walk in the metro Atlanta area with a 1998 grand total of more than $31,000.

"I think we can all be proud," said Greg Detwiler, the Walk's chairman. "We have identified a problem in our community and are working to fix it." Detwiler, whose wife Kim has type 1 diabetes, said he was "thrilled" with the event, which has grown from a $15,000 event just two years ago. "It was so much fun and we appreciate the efforts of the walkers and sponsors," he said.

Top teams from Coweta included: Caroline's Dream Team (#1 with $5,384), Bryan's Cure Fighters (#3 with $2,121), Unity Baptist Church, California Concepts, Georgia Power Coweta/Fayette offices, and the Sophomore Superstars. Those from Fayette included: WalMart Pharmacy, McIntosh Varsity Cheerleaders, Princess, and Camp Ivy. From Henry was United Nissan and from Fulton was Sams'Sations. Other top teams included the Bedford Team, Georgia Power Company (#2 with $2,500+), Georgia Power Ambassadors and the Citizens of Georgia Power.
