Site preparation work has begun at Ga. Highways 54 and 74 in Peachtree City for a commercial complex that will include a 20,000-square foot office products store, another 10,000 square feet of retail stores, and at least two restaurants, Chili's and On The Border.

Van Westmoreland, development director for JDN Realty Inc. of Atlanta, says the complex is expected to open in the spring of 1999. About another 30 days of preparation of the 11-acre site will be required before actual building construction starts, he added.

When asked if the complex had "tree save areas," Westmoreland replied, "Do we ever ... we're in Peachtree City." He said there is a 40-foot undisturbed tree buffer along all highway frontage. The site is generally between Longhorn Steakhouse and Pike Nurseries, west of Hwy. 74 and north of Hwy. 54.

The company owns the Cub Foods shopping center on Ga. Highway 85 in Fayetteville, and has done several other commercial areas in Fayette, including Lowe's and Eckerd Drugs.

"The restaurant and retail market is good in Peachtree City," Westmoreland says. "Success breeds success. We're excited about our first project in Peachtree City. It's one of the finer communities in the metro area."

JDN purchased the property from Pathway Communities.
