Women to light up 'Stars' Nov. 21

Several talented women will take the stage for the Saturday, Nov. 21, Stars on the Southern Crescent coffee house. Scheduled performers include Atlanta storyteller Nancy Kavanaugh and singer/actor Rivka Levin, who, according to Susan Steadman of Offshoot Productions, gave a touching performance as "Sara" in Offshoot's "Going to See the Elephant" last winter. Levin, who will sing Broadway and jazz favorites, will be accompanied by Leslie Boyette, musical director at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Peachtree City. Elissa Dukes, a longtime Offshoot Productions apprentice, will also sing.

Kavanaugh, who is making her first appearance at the coffee house, has told her empowering and enriching stories at venues as diverse as a dinner meeting of the American Business Women's Association, Six Flags Over Georgia, the Blueberry Jubilee Storytelling Festival, and, for the 1996 Olympics, Stories under the Southern Stars. She has been president of the Southern Order of Storytellers and has taught classes on storytelling at Kennesaw State University, the North Arts Center in Dunwoody, Clayton College and State University, and elsewhere.

The coffee house is presented at National Heights Baptist Church by Offshoot Productions. The church is located at the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Old Norton, between Peachtree City and downtown Fayetteville. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. and the entertainment begins at 8:15 p.m. Patrons can purchase homemade desserts, gourmet coffee, a variety of teas, hot spiced apple cider and cold drinks. Patrons who bring their own mugs receive a discount on hot beverages and are eligible to compete for the "Most Unusual Mug Award."

General admission is $5 ($4 for seniors and under age 12).
