Tigers beat Chiefs for county championship

Team: Fayette County Tigers

Coach: Clint Burton

Record: 6-4

Last Week:: beat McIntosh, 33-20

Key Players: The entire team played great with senior Keaton Willis rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown in his first start ever. Corey Bowen rushed for a touchdown as well.

Notes: The Tigers were down at the half and showed great poise taking over in the second half. The team played with a lot of emotion which is key in a rivalry like this one. Coach Burton was pleased with the pass rush and the way the defense kept Stokes in check.

Chiefs fall short to Fayette County

Team: McIntosh Chiefs

Coach: Clint Ashmore

Record: 2-8

Last Week: lost to Fayette County, 33-20

Key Players: There was a good effort from the entire team, sparked by Ronnie Melton and Dion Stokes.

Notes:The Chiefs downfall was a bad third quarter where they gave up big passing plays to the Tigers. It was an even game up to the third quarter and then after it. McIntosh was more effective with their offensive execution this week and Coach Ashmore was pleased with the effort and performance of the Chiefs.

East Coweta beats Tigers to remain unbeaten

Team: East Coweta Indians

Coach: Danny Cronic

Record: 10-0

Last Week: beat Stockbridge, 68-22

Key Players: RB Marvin Smith, 191 yards on 10 carries, 4 TD's, QB Dantra Clements, ran for a touchdown and threw for two.

Notes: The fifth ranked Indians put up the points again to remain undefeated. Marvin Smith ran for a 69 yard touchdown in the opening minute Friday night and East Coweta never looked back. Clements hooked up with Jackie Britt and David Sepanski for touchdowns, as well as rushing for a touchdown himself. The Indians now have two weeks to prepare for the playoffs.

This week: Off week before playoffs.

Starr's Mill loses close game

Team: Starr's Mill Panthers

Coach: Mike Earwood

Record: 3-6

Last Week: lost to Woodward Academy, 38-31

Key Players:RB Matt Tuttle, 108 yards on 18 carries, one touchdown, QB Brad McClaren, 9-19, 178 yards, 2 INT. K Evan Greeson, 35 yard FG.

Notes: Turnovers were the downfall of the Panthers yet again. They fumbled twice on scoring drives on the one and five yard line. One of the fumbles was run back 95 yards for a Woodward touchdown. "We were great offensively but the turnovers and the inability to stop the run cost us the game," Coach Mike Earwood said about the game. This was the fourth game of the season that the Panthers lost by a touchdown and in each of those games turnovers have dealt the devastating blows. This week's game against Forest Park will be televised by Media One as the High School Game of the Week.

Patriots cannot handle North Clayton

Team: Sandy Creek Patriots

Coach: Don Tyre

Record: 2-7

Last Week: lost to North Clayton, 26-0

Key Players: Freshman Cedric Goalston, nine tackles, two assists and three sacks, freshman Brooks Martin, five tackles and four assists. QB/rover Chris Sizemore, five tackles, one assist and one sack.

Notes: Sandy Creek dropped it's sixth game in a row Saturday night to North Clayton. but the score does not reflect the tone of the game. The game was scoreless with 30 seconds left in the first half when the Patriots gave up a big pass play and went down by a touchdown. Sandy Creek had a number of drives early but could not put it in the endzone. With six minutes to go in the game, the Patriots only trailed by 12 but they fumbled and North Clayton ran it in for a touchdown. "The kids are putting in an enormous amount of effort," says Coach Tyre. " They are surpassing expectations despite being quite outmanned." The Patriots are extremely banged up and four players possibly will be sitting out this Friday when they face Jonesboro.

Landmark goes to war with Eagles

Team: Landmark War Eagles

Coach: Bill Thorn

Record: 4-4

Last Week: lost to Greenville, 32-7

Key Players: C.R. Palmer had a real good game on both sides of the ball.

Notes: The War Eagles had their playoff hopes dashed on Fridayby a dominating Greenville squad and a win by Bremen. The Eagles led 7-6 at the half and were moving down the field for a touchdown when they fumbled . Greenville recovered the fumble, scoring a touchdown and capturing the momentum. Greenville intercepted on Landmark's next drive and scored again. "The team played real well but those few mistakes cost us," Coach Thorn said. The War Eagles got banged up quite a bit on Friday and may be missing three players against undefeated Bowdon this week.
