Charitable Real Estate Agencies

Not only does the real estate market continue to draw people from all over to the homes of Fayette and Coweta counties, they are giving back to the community through various fund-raisers and charity benefits.

Recently, as well as through the years, the agencies in the county have participated in everything from tournaments to home tours to raise money for children.

The offices of Re/Max Results in Peachtree City and Newnan sponsored a golf tournament Oct. 19 at White Water Country Club to benefit the Children's Miracle Network through pediatric medical services provided at Egleston and Scottish Rite Hospitals in Atlanta.

Other locals also got involved including South Towne Motors in Newnan, who sponsored a 1998 Buick Regal Grand Sport for a Hole in One; Griffin Financial Services and Carolyn Ford, who sponsored prizes on four other hole in ones; and BancMortgage, who provided photographs for each item.

Over 85 players participated in the tournament and raised over $5,000 was raised for the Children's Miracle Network.

Prudential Georgia Realty worked with the students of Oak Grove Elementary School recently and raked in nearly $750 for the Oak Grove Elementary School PTO and the Sunshine Kids Foundation during the second annual Oaktoberfest Carnival and Arts and Crafts Festival.

At their booth titled "Children Helping Children," the team of volunteers sold homemade Christmas ornaments handcrafted by the students. The proceeds were divided between the PTO and the Sunshine Kids, a non-profit organization devoted to helping kids with cancer leave the hospital and get involved in healthy outdoor activities.

"The Oaktoberfest was fantastic," siad Carolyn West of Prudential Georgia Realty. "It was a great feeling to work with the students who were so enthusiastic about raising money for their school and the very special Sunshine Kids."

Another local agency, who consistiently supports the Muscular Dystrophy Association, raised over $67,000 this year.

For the second consecutive year,ERA Jo-Par Realty in Fayetteville has become the top MDA fundraiser in the ERA network. Led by broker-owners Charlie and Connie King, ERA Jo-Par Realty in Fayetteville along with fellow ERA companies, $1.8 million was raised in 1997.

The Kings recently represented ERA on the Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual Labor Day Telethon, where they presented the ERA donation to MDA National Chairman, Jerry Lewis.

"The Kings and ERA Jo-Par Realty truly exemplify the ERA commitment," said Jerry Smith, ERA Vice President and MDA National Vice President. "Like our members throughout the world, ERA Jo-Par is a group of caring real estate professionals who are not only dedicated to providing consumers with the best in service, but are committed to serving their community as well."

The Kings also earned the 1997 Ed Bilinkas Memorial Award, given annually to the ERA franchise that raises the most funds for MDA.

Two upcoming events to benfit children include the annual Noel November to benefit the Asden Johnson Youth Protection Home at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds, Nov. 14 and The 1998 Deorator Showplace Tour, located at Arbor Springs Plantation in Newnan, also Nov. 14 to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Newnan.

Noel November is sponsored annually by the Fayette County Board of Realtors, where wreaths and Christmas trees are auctioned to raise funds. The public is invited to a showing of the trees and wreaths from 9a .m.-4 p.m. The day will include special Christmas music, holiday children's activities, and photos with Santa.
