The Brooks Town Council, in an unusual move, has moved it's regular meeting of Nov. 16th to Wednesday, Nov. 18. This will allow them to attend the Fayette County Board of Education meeting on Nov. 16, to state their objections to relocating middle schools students who live in Brooks.

The Board of Education had appointed a committee of five citizens, none of whom lived in the Brooks area. Parents are concerned with the additional time involved each day to take them to White water Middle School, instead of Rising Starr Middle School, which is ten miles closer (round trip). Parents are also concerned that once their children are at White water they will be forced to go on to Fayette County High School instead of Starr's Mill High.

The Brooks Council all agreed to be at the Board of Education meeting, and have been placed on its agenda.

Zoning Administrator, Huie L. Bray, along with town council, David Winkle, presented their solution to an application for a business license by Susan Keesal, to open a massage therapy business in Brooks. This type of license was not covered and it was decided to adopt the one similar to the one for Fayette County, with some modifications. Until this is adopted, she was allowed to have a business license based on the fact that she meets all the standards for studies for massage therapy as set out in the State of Georgia regulations.

The head of the local Velo Racing Team, Ken Bartholomew and Rick Strickland asked for and received permission of the Council to hold its seventh bicycle race in Brooks. Entitled "The Brooks Cycling Classic," it has become one of the biggest in the state. The course is 26.4 miles in all, and riders from several states are expected. It will be held on Saturday, March 27, 1999.

Two off-duty policemen will be provided by the Velo Racing Team.
