Residents interested in high-speed Internet access will get an up-close and personal look Saturday at Community NetFest '98.

The event is sponsored by Charter Communications and will be held at the company's office at 43 Werz Industrial Drive in Newnan from 11 a.m- 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Carter will celebrate the launch of its new Internet service, Charter Pipeline, at the celebration Saturday.

"This high-speed service is at least 15 times faster than the typical Internet connection," said director of sales for Charter Pipeline Ron Pitcock Jr.

During Community NetFest '98, visitors can see live demonstrations of the service, enjoy free food, family entertainment and drawings for thousands of dollars in giveaways. Executives from Charter Communications, along with representatives from the Fox Family channel, Cartoon Network and ZDTV will be on hand to answer questions about their services.

Charter Pipeline will offer a full suite of services ranging from dial-up access to high-speed cable modems capable of speeds from 500 kilobits per second up to 10,000 KBPS beginning at $24.95 per month.

With the high-speed cable modems, the service is provided over a customer's cable line with no disruption to the television signal. Charter Pipeline will also offer three e-mail addresses, 6 MB of Web space, dial-up accounts for travelers and a help desk, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A fully staffed local office will provide services such as Web site development, Internet consulting, Internet commerce and Internet advertising.

"We are pleased to offer this service to our Coweta County customers," said Charter Communications general manager Phil Skinner.
