Rotary Club publishes 25th edition of Peachtree City's telephone book

Twenty-five years ago, some Peachtree City citizens approached the Rotary Club of Peachtree City about publishing a "local telephone book." The idea was to help the small businesses of the city have an effective, but inexpensive, medium for advertising their local services.

The club accepted the challenge and produced the first Peachtree City telephone directory. This first endeavor consisted of a stapled-together booklet covering only Peachtree City, and the circulation was just a few thousand.

Recently, the club completed their 25th edition of the phone book and distributed 30,000 of the 800-page books to businesses and residences. The book is now called the Fayette County Telephone Book to reflect the expanded coverage.

Sale of advertising in the phone book is the club's major fundraiser. Monies from the advertising sales help support numerous international, national and local projects. County projects include, the Fayette County YMCA's "Partner in Youth" program, the Fayette County Council on Battered Women, the Fayette Samaritans, the Joseph Sams School, Meals on wheels, the Gathering Place and the local scouting program.
